BTD Tooling: Where Skilled Craftsmen Meet the Latest Technologies

Our Tooling department works around the clock to design and develop the components manufacturers all over the country use to make their products, from automobiles, recreational vehicles and lawn care equipment to over-the-road trucks, solar panels, building bracketry and appliances. Our team of 110 craftsmen is skilled in producing fixtures, stage tooling and high-volume automotive-style progressive or transfer die systems specific to each customer’s applications—headquartered in our 26,000 square-foot Lakeville, Minnesota facility.

To get things just right, it takes a variety of technologies, including the Solidworks® computer-aided design software, Logopress tool designer and Autoform®. With GibbsCAM®, a highly powerful and flexible programming tool, our team is also able to ensure our CNC machines make components to each customer’s exact specifications. These machines feature spindles that run as fast as 14,000 rpm and offer a vertical milling table as large as 60 by 120 inches.

Our commitment to high-quality parts expands to our tool room; we have four, wire EDM machines, five tryout presses and all the miscellaneous machines needed to support our tool builds. Our pressroom tests dies using 150-, 200-, 300-, 350- and 600-ton presses.

And when it comes to inspecting what we create, we use some highly precise equipment, including our coordinate measuring machines that provide precise measurement of parts to ensure conformance to specifications. We also take that even further with our FARO 3D measurement machine.
